A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Drake Horton. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
Barbara exemplified strength and grace during a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer, and leaves behind her husband of nearly 60 years, Rom, 3 daughters, Terri (Mike) Absher, Michelle Shumate, and Heather (Stuart) Davis, 9 grandchildren, Chad (April) Absher, Elisha (Alex) Moody, Alex (Tori) Hutcherson, David Martin, Brady Hutcherson, Kathryn Martin, Jaymee Hutcherson, Kaycee Hutcherson, and Ellis Davis, and 8 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Chloe, Evie, Xander, Waylon, Cash, J.C., and Alexia, sister Sharon (Tommy) Billings and brother Tony (Annette) McCann of Roaring River, North Carolina.
From her younger days as a talented beautician to her retirement after a decades-long career in banking, she brought smiles to the faces of so many with her kindness and warmth.
Over the years, Barbara spent much of her time supporting her church family and ministering through teaching, music, and laughter. She was able to find joy in all circumstances and lead others to do the same. She never missed an opportunity to show God’s love to others and made many friends along the way.
Barbara’s heart knew no bounds when it came to her family, whom she loved unconditionally. She found immense joy in watching them grow, celebrating their milestones, and sharing wisdom gathered from a life well-lived.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Glenna McCann and sister, Paula McCann.
The family would like to thank McLeod Hospice and nurse Stacey Beaver, RN for their compassionate care and support.
Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice, American Cancer Society for Ovarian Cancer Research, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
