Barbara Leigh Teal

Ms. Barbara Leigh Teal, age 77, entered into rest on March 24, 2021. A viewing, visitation & sharing of memories will be held from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Teal was born March 31, 1943 in Chesterfield, SC a daughter of the late Robert T. and Wilma Thompson Teal. She was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service and attended First Southern Methodist Church. Barbara enjoyed working in her flowers, growing huge gardens each year to give away vegetables to family and friends, canning, and sewing. She was a talented seamstress who enjoyed creating special outfits with matching bows and accessories for her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Teal was also preceded in death by her son, Mark Leigh Payne; sister, Linda Teal Dixon; and brother, Barry Teal.

Survivors include her children, Julie (Stanley) Potthoff of Patrick, SC, and Tish Payne of Chesterfield, SC; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn (Nicky) Cohen of Chesterfield, SC; caregiver & son of the heart, Brandon Leigh Payne; daughter of the heart, Brenda Newsome; numerous nieces and nephews including, Tyler Teal, Barry Teal, Jr., and David Tyner whom she loved and treated as sons.

Memorials may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, 212 Zoar Road, Chesterfield, SC to benefit those affected by child neglect; or to First Southern Methodist Church, c/o Patsy Caulder 5096 Teals Mill Road, Chesterfield, SC 29709.
