Mr. Bernie G. Simpson, Sr., age 85, entered into rest on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at his home. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, March 10, 2019 at North Cheraw Baptist Church by the Honorable Rep. Rev. Richie Yow with burial to follow in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Mr. Simpson was born September 6, 1933 in Rockingham, NC a son of the late Fairley Leonard and Arrita May Shaw Simpson. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a faithful member of North Cheraw Baptist Church. Bernie served his church as former Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, member of the Finance Committee, Building and Grounds Committee, and choir member. Mr. Simpson was the former owner and operator of Bernie’s Men’s Store, Cheraw Mobile Homes, and Triple S Auto Sales. In his younger years, Bernie enjoyed auto racing and shrimping. Always investing his time into others, Mr. Simpson touched the lives of many young people throughout the years coaching baseball.

In addition to his parents, Bernie was also preceded in death by the love of his life, his beloved wife of 64 years and 11 months, Joyce Jordan Simpson; one son, James “Jimmy” Lynwood Simpson; brother, William “Bill” Simpson; and sister, Pricilla Wilkes Lee.

Survivors include his son, Bernie G. (Sylvia) Simpson, Jr. of Cheraw, SC; daughter, Arrita “Rita” Simpson (Carl) Forman of Columbia, SC; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Simpson of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Dr. Gabe (Lisa) Simpson, Dameon (Sara) Simpson, Liza Streater all of Cheraw, SC, Matthew (Ashley) Simpson of Charlotte, NC, Stacey Jones, and Brent Sweatt both of Cheraw, SC,  Morgan (Adam) Humphries and Jessica (Chris) Sellers both of Columbia, SC, and Garrett (Jordan) Forman of Lydia, SC;  great grandchildren, Ashley (Spencer) Heringa of Pendleton, SC, Kaine Simpson of Chesterfield, SC, Justin Horne and Nathan Simpson both of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, Hayes McLendon, Grant McLendon, Sydney Gulledge, Jesse Jones, Emma Jones, Brenn Sweatt, Jordan Simpson, Gracie Simpson, and Ian Simpson all of Cheraw, SC, Charlie Humphries, Max Humphries both of Columbia, SC, Carlyle Forman of Lydia, SC, and Alivia Jane Sellers of Irmo, SC, Makayla Simpson and Avery Simpson both of Charlotte, NC; great – great grandchildren, Kellan Heringa, Karis Heringa and Coen Davis; siblings, Shirley (H.J.) Goodwin of Hampton, VA, Barbara (Jr.) Adkins of Landrum, SC, and Jerry (Sandra) Wilkes of Salisbury, NC; and sisters-in-law, Eunice Jordan Privette of N. Myrtle Beach, SC, and Geraldine Simpson of Laurinburg, NC; also numerous nieces and nephews.
