Betty D. Griffith

Chesterfield, S.C.  Betty D. Griffith passed away peacefully on January 27.  Funeral services will be 2 pm, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chesterfield.  Burial will follow at the Chesterfield Cemetery.  The family will receive family and friends in the sanctuary of the church from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, prior to the service.

During her 90 years of life, she brought endless joy to her family and friends, and we all have a place in our hearts where her memory will forever remain alive. She was born on October 21, 1933, in Mt. Croghan, S.C., to her parents, Jennings Hobson (J.H.) and Alma Deas Dalrymple, and a loving family of one brother and two sisters, and she remained close to them throughout their lifetimes.

Her family meant everything to her.  Her husband Robert H. “Bobby” Griffith (deceased), sons Richard J. “Dick” Griffith (Ellen), Robert A. Griffith (deceased) (Melanie), and Russell W. Griffith (Laura) all benefited from her generosity, thoughtfulness, and, of course, her great cooking!  She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and siblings, and had close relationships with them all. 

She worked for many years with the Chesterfield County School District and also at St. Paul United Methodist Daycare.  She had a particular talent and manner with preschool children and loved to read with them, teach them the basics, and keep them in line with her gentle nature and sweet ways. 

The family has requested, in lieu of flowers, donations to St. Paul United Methodist Church at 305 W. Main St., Chesterfield. S.C. 29709 or Spring Hill Assisted Living at 514 S. Gum St., Pageland, S. C. 29728.  Special thanks to the staff of Spring Hill Assisted Living, Cheraw Healthcare, McLeod Health, and McLeod Hospice, and Pastor Alisha Hansen, who has provided heartfelt and invaluable spiritual support and guidance throughout Betty’s recent illnesses.
