Mrs. Pigg was born March 9, 1932, in Mt. Croghan, a daughter of the late Walter H. Tucker, Sr. and Kate Vick Tucker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Billy F. Pigg; daughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Pigg Collins of Pageland; brothers, Walter H. “Junior” Tucker, Jr. of Barnegat, NJ, Wiley Dean Tucker of Homestead, FL, Johnny Tucker of Lancaster and Glenn Tucker of Pageland; sister, Billie Jean Orr of Pageland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Katrina P. and Charlie Sturgis of Monroe, NC, Fanell P. and Jimmie Attaway Rivers of Mt. Croghan, Rance Pigg of Pageland and Sue Causby Pigg of Virginia Beach; VA, brothers-in-law Jerry Jenkins of Pageland and Johnny Anderson of Fayetteville, NC.
Bobbie attended the Mt. Croghan schools. She loved singing, dancing, gardening and cooking. Her first job was working at her aunt’s restaurant where she met the love of her life, Billy Farris Pigg. It was love at first sight, and after a short courtship, they were married by the probate judge on April 25, 1950. They kept their marriage a secret for a month until they told Billy’s parents and moved into their upstairs bedroom. They lived there until they got their own home in downtown Pageland. After Farris was born in 1952 and Cindy 13 months later, they built a family home next to his parents. When Billy bought Bud Motor Company in 1969, they moved to Cheraw and lived there until they returned to Pageland in 1993. Since they didn’t have a wedding, Farris and Jane gave them a 60th anniversary wedding celebration at Providence with a three-tiered wedding cake. Bobbie bought a special pink (her favorite color) wedding suit for the party.
Bobbie supported and assisted Billy in all his work and civic activities, including the state and national Jaycees, Pageland Chamber of Commerce, Watermelon Festival, Masonic and Shrine events, the State Health and Human Services Finance Commission and 41 years of Ford Dealer Principal meetings.
Bobbie said she was his “eye-candy” at all the meetings!
They traveled the world together. She was the life of the party and had the gift of being able to talk with anyone and make everyone feel welcome. She was a gracious hostess and loved to entertain. Her home was a gathering place for Farris’ and Cindy’s friends and the entire community. Before coffee shops, Bobbie Pigg’s sun room was always open for friends and Billy’s business associates to stop by for a cup of coffee and “something sweet” to eat at any time. No calling ahead was needed. She was a wonderful cook and shared her delicious food at every opportunity. She and Billy were the “official cookers” of the Central Eagles Broadcast crew. They fed the Eagles crew, opposing broadcast crews and other radio folks every home game Friday night during the season from 2007 until 2021.
Bobbie was a loving and caring family matriarch who deeply loved her husband, two children, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was dedicated to her God and her church and had a sincere and abiding faith in the Lord Jesus. She was a very active member of Providence Baptist Church with the exception of the 24 years she and Billy lived in Cheraw. During that time, they were members of Cheraw First Baptist. As long as she was physically able, she was an active member of the Adult Ladies Sunday School class, sang in the choir and holiday cantatas, traveled with the Senior Citizens, worked with Bible School, delivered tapes to shut-ins, visited the residents at Springhill, and took part in her favorite ministry, the bereavement team, where she could serve meals and comfort families during their most difficult times.
She leaves a legacy to carry on her good works: son and daughter-in-law, Farris and Jane Pigg of Cheraw; four grandchildren, Britt Pigg and his wife, Caleigh, of Rock Hill, Brad Pigg and his wife, Jessie, of Pageland, Melissa Shrum of Rock Hill, Jon David Shrum and his wife, Dana, of Spartanburg; eight great grandchildren, Elisa Petty of Spartanburg, Katelyn Elizabeth Pigg and her boyfriend, Curt Chapman, Kenzie Grace Pigg and Kolton Bradley Pigg of Pageland, Taftt Riggins Pigg of Rock Hill, Stevie Rose Shrum, and twins Salem and Silas Shrum of Spartanburg; and two great-great-grandchildren, Milani and Miguel Petty of Spartanburg; son-in-law, David Collins of Pageland; sisters Veronica Jenkins and Rose Anderson of Pageland; nieces and nephews Kathy Sturgis Ward and her husband, Ronnie of Winchester, VA, Neal Sturgis and his wife, Dyann, of Fort Mill, Lt. Col. (Ret.) James R. “Jim” Pigg, Jr. and his wife, Cathy, of Fayetteville, GA, Tavia Pigg Hazel and her husband, Wade, of Blacksburg, VA, Jimmie Rivers and his wife, Michelle, of Mt. Croghan, Peggy Pigg Palacioz and her husband, Tony, of Virginia Beach, VA, Scott Rivers and his wife, Dale, of Wadesboro, NC, Christa Jenkins Sullivan and her husband, Michael, of Matthews, NC, Tavia Gonzalez and her husband, Frank, of Fayetteville, NC, Andre Jenkins of Pageland, Janet Sellers and her husband David of Lancaster, Ann Mosley and her husband, Alton, of Lancaster, Luke Tucker and his wife, Kim, of Myrtle Beach, Gary Tucker, Tracy Tucker and Wendy Tucker of Barnegat, NJ, along with their families; a number of cousins; and her furbaby, Bushy.
Bobbie Pigg was a happy person. She always made a big glass of lemonade out of every lemon that life tossed her way. She and her joyous spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to sincerely thank and acknowledge everyone who helped her in the final phase of her life: pallative care nurses Kristen Sellers, Madison Lewis Sellers, Chaplain Hank Fields and the awesome staff of Gentiva Hospice; Ginger Benson, Adrena Dundy and the awesome staff of Springhill Assisted Living, Selena Belk, Leanne Austin, Alissa Brumette, Amanda Cockfield, Deborah Hatten, Brittany Hubbell, Kassy Hurst, Samatha McManus, Wendy Moore, Loretta Parham, Catherine Richardson, Evelyn Sturdivant, Janet Shaw, Oliva Sullivan, Melissa Thomas, Selena Vasquez, Clara Rice, Ashley Wallace, Kaci Weber, Patricia Wilson; and Nora Richardson.
