ALICE CAROLYN DAVIS GOLDSMITH

Affectionally known as "Miss "Smith", " 'Nookie", and various nicknames, Mrs. Goldsmith was born Nov. 15, 1922 in Chesterfield County, SC and entered into rest on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. She was the daughter of the late T. Ben Davis and Myrtle Edna White Davis. Mrs. Goldsmith was a graduate of Zoar High School and attended Queens College; she was later awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (DHL) from Queens College for her extraordinary and sustained contributions to country and community. Mrs. Goldsmith honorably served in World War II in the Army Air Corps as a driver and mechanic. She was a certified State Tree Farmer, a member of the NY Board of Jewelers Trade, and a crop farmer. Mrs. Goldsmith was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, and formerly a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She was also a 60+ year member of American Legion Post 74. Mrs. Goldsmith was a life-long fisherwoman, environmentalist, avid horse enthusiast, and an inaugural PSL and season-ticketholder of the Carolina Panthers. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Goldsmith was preceded in death: by her husband, Harry S. Goldsmith; two brothers, Lewis, and Frank; and by two sisters, Mary D. Pusser, and Julia D. Mackall. She is survived by 2 children: Carmen (Thomas K.) Barton, and Kitty Grubb, both of Seminole, FL; by a brother, The Honorable Judge Edwin M. (Betty) Davis of Chesterfield, SC; and also, by numerous nieces and nephews, and a community full of faithful friends. The funeral service will be Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 3:00 PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with interment immediately following at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive guests there in the Fellowship Hall, after the burial service. The Reverend Bruce Adams and Reverend Jackie Hinson will conduct the services. Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Paul Methodist Church, 305 W. Main St., or to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 293 Zoar Rd., both of Chesterfield, SC 29709.


Service Information

The funeral service will be Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 3:00 PM at St. Paul United Methodist Church

Interment will be immediately following at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive guests there in the Fellowship Hall, after the burial service.
