Charles Bennett “Sam” Tucker, 82, of Florence, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017.
Mr. Tucker was born on July 11, 1935, in Chesterfield, SC, a son of the late Jasper Dorsey
Tucker and Odell Elizabeth Curtis Tucker. He graduated from Chesterfield High School. He was a US Army veteran and founder of Tucker Medical. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church where he was active in the Lutheran Men in Mission. Mr. Tucker was also a volunteer for Cooks for Christ and a former member of the Optimist Club. He enjoyed his days coaching little league baseball, playing golf, traveling, and spending time with family and friends who were dear to him. He was an avid reader, committed South Carolina Gamecock fan, and was admired for his sense of humor and humility.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Idette Holsenback Tucker; son, Dr. Len (Seton) Tucker of Fort Mill, SC; daughter, Dr. Eve (Dr. Dan Brown) Tucker of Chapin, SC; three grandchildren, Miles, Jay, and Sophie Tucker; brother Dean (Ellen) Tucker of Chesterfield, SC, and sisters Mickie T. Rivers of Lilesville, NC, and Linda T. Phillips of Hamlet, NC; and many cousins who will remember him fondly.
Memorials may be made to the St. Luke Lutheran Church Columbarium Fund, 1201 Cherokee
Road, Florence, SC 29501, or the charity of one’s choice.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Friday, August 4, 2017 at St. Luke Lutheran Church with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
