David Coley

Candler, NC - David C. Coley, 73, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.


A native of Chesterfield County, SC, Mr. Coley resided in Buncombe County since 1975. He retired from the US Navy in 1978 with 20 years of service, and retired from the US Postal Service as a letter carrier at the Biltmore location. Mr. Coley was a member of Lake Hills Church – Candler (formerly New Morgan Hill Baptist Church) since 1976, where he served faithfully as a Deacon and former Sunday School teacher. His passion was his family, and he will always be remembered as a loving and providing husband, father, and grandfather.


Mr. Coley was the son of the late Horace and Sarah Tolbert Coley, and was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Coley.


Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Nancy Wood Coley; sons: David C. Coley, Jr, and fiancé Ashley Taylor, and Tim Coley; granddaughters: Kaylee and Kyndal Coley; siblings: Judy Brazell (Junior), Roy Coley, Irene Coley, Bonnie Hoover (Ronnie), and Joe Coley (Sandy); sister-in-law, Bootsie Coley; special aunt, Ervileen Pridgen; and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM noon Thursday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with Pastor Ian Walker and longtime friend Roy Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.


The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
