HISTORY: Mr. Smith was born June 3, 1928 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Neal Archie and Ella Burr Smith. He was a 1945 graduate of Chesterfield High School. Mr. Smith was a Chief Officer in the Merchant Marines during WW II, having made 64 ocean voyages during his 13 years of service. He worked with Sunny Point Army Base as Marine Superintendent for 11 years, and was Deputy Commander of the Charleston Army Base for 14 years, where he was Marine Superintendent of Military Cargo for SC, GA, and Fla. Mr. Smith retired in 1989 and began his rental property business in NC and SC. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, David was also preceded in death by his wife, Esther Rae Gaddy Smith; his brothers, Wilson, Billy, and Luther "Pete" Smith; and by his 3 sisters, Ruth S. Wadsworth, Mary Louise Smith, and Elizabeth Smith.

2 Sons: Rev. David E. Smith, Jr. and John Manley Smith both of Chesterfield, SC
