DECEASED: Mr. David Perkins Thurman, Sr., age 90, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009

FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Ruby Baptist Church

INTERMENT: will follow in the Ruby Cemetery

VISITATION: 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Saturday prior to the service at the church also 4:00 - 6:00 PM, Friday at his daughters home, 831 Championship Drive, Florence, SC

HISTORY: Mr. Thurman was born September 11, 1918 in Ruby, SC a son of the late James Perkins "Perk" Thurman and Mollie Sullivan Thurman. He was a graduate of Ruby High School, and received his undergraduate and Master's Degree from Appalachian State University. Mr. Thurman was an educator having served as teacher and principal, and retired as Director of Instruction from Monroe City Schools. He was a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of WWII, and a member of the Ruby-Mt. Croghan American Legion Post #134. Mr. Thurman was a devoted member of Ruby Baptist Church where he had served as Chairman of Deacons, Sunday School Teacher, and Bible Study Leader. David never turned down an opportunity to teach a Bible Study, or to witness of His Savior's Love. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny and Knox Thurman; and by a sister, Madge T. Davis

2 Brothers: Billy (Evelyn) Thurman of Ruby, SC, and Mickey (Dot) Thurman of Mt. Croghan, SC
2 Sisters: Thelma (Rev. Doug) Venters of Darlington, SC and Gladys Sutton of Florence, SC
1 Sister-in-law: Mildred Thurman of Ruby, SC
