Mr. David Lee Simpson, age 64, entered into rest on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, December 15, 2018, at Calvary Baptist Church by Pastor Jackie Bailey and Rev. Tim Williams with the eulogy being delivered by his granddaughter, Kaylee Helms. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM Saturday, prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church.
Mr. Simpson was born August 12, 1954, in Monroe, NC, a son of Lucy Mae Knight Simpson and the late Cornelius Potter “C.P.” Simpson. A retired truck driver, David was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was currently serving as Chairman of the Deacons, member of the Cemetery Committee, and was affectionately known as “The Candy Man” of the church. His hobbies included playing the guitar, going on rides through the countryside with his family, and always looking for an addition to his “junk collection.” His greatest pastime and passion was spending time with his grandchildren. They were truly the apple of his eye.
In addition to his father, David was also preceded in death by his daughter, Krystan Simpson Helms; and brother-in-law, Billy Lee Jenkins.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Margaret Thompson Simpson of the home; grandchildren, Kaylee Spring Helms, and Dawson Elliot Helms both of Jefferson, SC; mother, Lucy K. Simpson of Jefferson, SC; sister, Barbara S. Jenkins of Jefferson, SC; and son-in-law, Donny Helms of Jefferson, SC.
