Dewey Hurst

Mr. Dewey Franklin Hurst, age 95, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Marty Nason with burial to follow in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends Saturday from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service in the sanctuary of the church.

Mr. Hurst was born October 17, 1922 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late A.P. and Nita Whitaker Hurst. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW. The owner of T & D Tree Service, Mr. Hurst was a retired employee of Crown Cork and Seal and a former employee of Cheraw Plywood Company and Bo-Buck Mills. A member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Dewey enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hurst was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Sue Davis; daughter, Barbara H. Paul; brothers, Maureen, Floyd, and Lloyd Hurst; sisters, Edith H. Goodman, Jean H. Richardson, and Mary Catherine H. Laney; and a very special friend, Lucille Winecoff.

Survivors include his daughter, Deborah H. Blackwell of Easley, SC; 3 grandchildren, Tim Pope of Cheraw, SC, Michelle Pope of Cary, NC, and Nicole (Paul) Lesley of Easley, SC; 11 great grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah, Harper, Camden, Joshua, Corbin, Haven, Lyric, Laney, Timothy, and Chase; sister, Reba Hodge of Kannapolis, NC; son-in-law, Larry Paul of Wadesboro, NC;  and special friend and caregiver, Geneva Covington.
