DECEASED: Mr. Donald Franklin Smith, Sr., age 72, husband of Patricia D. Smith, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Evans-Spencer-Robeson Cemetery, Chesterfield, SC

HISTORY: Mr. Smith was born September 19, 1940 in Wilmington, NC a son of the late Rev. Ray McKean Smith, Sr. of Christ Sanctified Holy Church, Hanahan, SC and Eula Ellen Smith. He retired as a Facilities Manager from the Naval Weapons Station with 42 years of service. His most recent retirement was on April 24, 2013, from the City of North Charleston Public Works Department where he was employed as an Engineering Inspector for over 8 years. Donald was an Instructor at Trident Technical College for over 25 years. He served many years as a Fireman with the Naval Weapons Station and was a charter member and captain of the Goose Creek Rural Volunteer Fire Department, and a charter member of the Hanahan Volunteer Department. He also served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. Mr. Smith was a licensed home builder and developed subdivisions and built homes in the Charleston area for over 45 years. He was a recipient of the Meritorious Medal of Honor. Donald will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him.
