Dorothy Phillips Zearfoss

Chesterfield, SC

          Mrs. Dorothy Phillips Zearfoss, age 91, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at her home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Westfield Creek Baptist Church by Pastor Jason Pope, Pastor Doug Anderson, and Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Saturday prior to the service in the church.

          Mrs. Zearfoss was born June 26, 1931 in McFarlan, NC a daughter of the late Arthur Battle and Sarah Frances Jones Phillips. She was a retired seamstress, having worked in cloth textiles for many years. Dorothy accepted the Lord as her Savior, joined Westfield Creek Baptist Church, and was baptized on August 29, 1943. She was a faithful member for over 79 years. A devout prayer warrior, Dorothy also served the Lord through the years as Children and Youth Sunday school teacher, Bereavement Meal Coordinator, Adult Sunday school class treasurer, and was instrumental in organizing the Outreach Tape Ministry of the church. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting, and working crossword and soduku puzzles.

          In addition to her parents, Mrs. Zearfoss was also preceded in death by her husband, Dale Eugene Zearfoss; sons, Anthony G. “Tony” Phillips, and Lil’ Dale Zearfoss. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by her brothers, Battle Phillips, John Phillips, Mack Phillips, and Gordon Phillips; and sisters, Mary P. Pate, Lucille Phillips, Clemmie P. White, Sarah P. Boan, and Edith P. Martin.

          Survivors include her sons, Jeff (Sue) Zearfoss of Chesterfield, SC, and Kenny (Lisa) Zearfoss of Bristol, CT; grandchildren, Scott (Ashley) Phillips, Greg (Teresa) Zearfoss, Jessica (Norm) Zearfoss, Ashley (Andrew) Crook, Megan (Pat Horne) Zearfoss, Josh (Kristy) Zearfoss; great grandchildren, Jack, Laycee, Gage, Trevor, Amelia, Bailey, Stephen, Matthew, Korleigh, Ellie, Everly, Layla, and Kendall; and numerous nieces and nephews.

          The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of CenterWell Home Health; Rhett Allen with Chesterfield County Council on Aging; dedicated caregivers, Sue Freeman, Katie Rivers, and Tiffani Campbell; her pastor, Jason Pope; special friends in Christ, Lisa & Tim Campbell and their children, Noah & Tiffani; her long-time beautician, Amber Shaw Bouknight; and close friends who took time to call her each day, Lib Frazier, Louise Brock, Wanda Morris, and Margie McLain.
