Dr. Rommy Benton Mullis
On September 24, 1939 Rommy was born to Clint and Mary Alice Mullis in Lancaster, SC. Dr. Mullis married Linda Flowers on July 16, 1961 and in January 1962 he went to Fort Jackson as an Army Private. He served six years in the Army National Guard and the Army Reserves.
His first daughter, Melanie was born on September 12, 1962. On August 30th, 1964, very close friends invited Rommy and Linda to a revival meeting at Sherwood Baptist Church to hear Dr. Everette Tolbert. It was during this meeting that they both accepted Christ as their Saviour.
On March 23, 1966, another daughter, Rosemary was born. Dr. Mullis felt the Lord’s hand upon him, calling him into full time ministry. He thought this was strange, since he was so quiet and timid. He surrendered to the call of full-time ministry proclaiming the gospel of Christ on September 28, 1968. He accepted his first and only pastorate in 1968 and was ordained in January of 1969. He served the Lord as pastor of Northside Baptist Church for fifty-two years.
Dr. Mullis earned the Doctorate of Ministry Degree from Bethany Bible College and Seminary of Dothan, Alabama in 1984. He earned the PhD in Religion in 1988 from the Christian Bible College located in Rocky Mount, NC and was awarded the Doctorate of Divinity from the Grace Bible College of Newton, NC in the year of 1991.
The pride of his life was the fact that his children were saved during his ministry and that they served the Lord with him his entire ministry at Northside Baptist Church.
Dr. Mullis received his “Promotion to Glory” on Sunday, February 11, 2024. He is now celebrating his new life in Heaven! He leaves behind his wife, Linda; two daughters, Melanie and son-in-law, Johnny Lee, and Rosemary and son-in-law, Mickey Boykin; three precious grandchildren, Mackenzie Riggins and husband, Dalton, Haley Hallman and husband, D.J., and Jordan Lee and wife, Adrienne; and also 6 great-grandchildren that he absolutely adored, Brooke and Parker Lee, Asher, Drake, and Huxley Riggins, and Kannon Hallman. He also leaves behind his twin brother, Tommy Mullis of Lake Toxaway, NC.
He was predeceased by four sisters, Johnnie Hinson, Jeri Murakami, Betty Wilson, and Peggy White.
He will be remembered by his family for his love, by his friends for his sincerity, and by all who knew him, for his faithfulness in witnessing for the Lord!
