Ms. Edith Howle Gardner, age 91, entered into rest on Friday, June 16, 2023. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, June 19, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Pastor Chad Vick with burial to follow in the Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Monday, prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at the home of her daughter, Renee King.
Ms. Gardner was born July 22, 1931 in Darlington County, SC a daughter of the late Eugene Howle and Pauline Edwards Howle Land. She was a retired employee of Crown Cork & Seal. Edith was a member of FreeWorship of Cheraw and a former member of Lower Macedonia Baptist Church. A true Christian lady, Ms. Gardner raised her family in church and taught them by example the importance of a relationship with the Lord. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flowers and was known for green thumb. In later years, Edith enjoyed working crossword puzzles, watching hummingbirds, and taking care of her baby dolls. She will always be remembered for her deep love for her family and her favorite title was, “Grandma Edith.”
In addition to her parents, Ms. Gardner was also preceded in death by her step-father, Mack Land; son, Eugene Nelson Gardner; and brother, Murray Howle.
Survivors include her children, Jim (Tammy) Gardner of Chesterfield, SC, Paula (Craig) Leviner of Winterville, NC, and Renee (Gilbert) King of Chesterfield, SC; grandchildren, Genia (Alex) Curlington, Michelle Hancock, Cliff Gardner, Josh (Brooke) Gardner, Adrian (Debbie) Aycock, Shelton (Victoria) Goodwin, Aspen (Brian) Cumbo, Cameron (Kennedy) Leviner, Cody Leviner, and Hailey King; great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Amber, Ethan, Haley, Hannah, Erica, Sarah, Brenlee, Jackson, Carter, Parker, Audrina, Jacoby, Leighton, Sutton, Judith, and Hattie; great-great grandchildren, Jacob, and soon to be arriving, Luka; brother, Thomas (Betty) Howle of FL; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friend and long-time caregiver, Mary Donahue.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff and administration of Cheraw Healthcare for the exceptional love and care they provided to Ms. Edith and her family.
