Mrs. Elizabeth Thomas-McLain nee Tolson of Patrick, SC.

Mother passed away and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 6:35 pm at the Cheraw Healthcare, Cheraw, SC.

Elizabeth was born 26 April 1923 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina in the Steer Pen district. The second of nine children of James Roachel and Vera Tolson nee Chapman. As a child she attended Brown Springs Baptist Church and later the Patrick Baptist Church.
She was a life long resident of Chesterfield County. She along with her first husband Richard Maurice Thomas Sr. operated for many years, Thomas Gas & Grocery on US 1 in Patrick. She operated a successful lunch counter at that location and was known for her cooking skills. Mother was born into a poor sharecroppers family and told us that for Christmas one year she got a few pieces of store bought hard candy and some fruit. Her six children are Richard Maurice, Jr., Phillip, Peggie Jean, William Kenneth, Russell Martin, and Stephen Thomas, all living. She devoted her life to her family and her home. Her love of flowers and gardening was reflected in her beautiful yards.
She married a second time to Richard McLain of Patrick. There were no children of that marriage.

She was preceded in death by siblings Clara Huggins, James Hildreth Tolson, William Lewis Tolson and Sadie Jordan. Surviving siblings are Margaret White of Bennettsville, Weldon "Snookie" Tolson of Patrick, Lloyd Jeter and Randall Tolson of Teals Mill area.
In addition she is also survived by her half brothers Odell, Lowell, Nolan, Ramond and Daphene Tolson and a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m, Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel, Chesterfield, S.C. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow the at Patrick Cemetery.
