Ernest E. "Gene" Hammonds

Mr. Ernest Eugene “Gene” Hammonds, age 72, entered into rest on Monday, February 26, 2018. A Private Graveside Service will be held at Fairview Baptist Church by Pastor Harold Cooke. A memorial service for family and friends will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Fairview Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.

Mr. Hammonds was born October 17, 1945 in Chesterfield County, SC a son of the late John Burris “J.B.” and Virginia Mae Gulledge Hammonds and step-mom, Lessie Mills Hammonds. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, working in his shop, dirt track racing, dancing, and watching western shows/movies. Mr. Hammonds was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Virginia Irene Hammonds of the home; son, Brad (Darla) Hammonds of Ruby, SC; 3 daughters, Pam (Chris) Blankenship of Cheraw, SC, Kim Hammonds (Carla) of Pageland, SC, and Gena (Michael) Kaltwang of Ruby, SC; grandchildren, Michael Johnson, Alex Hammonds, Garrett Hill, Grant Hill, Autumn Kaltwang, and Dylan Kaltwang; great-grandson, Jamie Johnson; 4 step-grandchildren, Angela Johnson, Daniel Helms, Samuel Blackwelder, and Caleb Blakenship; siblings, Burris (Betty) Hammonds of Jefferson, SC, Robert (Katherine) Hammonds of Pageland, SC, Margie (Greg) Propst of Salisbury, NC, James (Frances) King of Pageland, SC, Alvin (Amanda) Hammonds of Lancaster, SC, Doris (Robert) Bobb of Prosperity, SC, Sara (Woody) Pendarvis of Ruby, SC, John “Bo” Hammonds of Mt. Croghan, SC, Carroll Hammonds of Chesterfield, SC, Sue (Chester) Moore of Chesterfield, SC, and Avis (Edwin) Cooper of GA; also numerous nieces and nephews.
