FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Chesterfield Presbyterian Church

VISITATION: immediately following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall

HISTORY:
Mr. Stephenson was born September 13, 1914 in Weddington, NC, the son of the late Edwin Eugene Stephenson and Margaret Eloise Thomas Stephenson. He moved to Chesterfield, SC in 1920 with his parents and sister, Edna Elizabeth. He attended Wofford College, and in 1938, opened Stephenson Hardware, which he owned and managed for almost 75 years. Mr. Stephenson was an U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II. He served on the School Board for many years and had served on the Chesterfield Town Council.
He supervised the construction of Chesterfield's first town hall in the 1950's and was a former member of the Civitan Club, where he was instrumental in the organizing of Chesterfield's Annual Horse Show, which was a successful series of events in the 1950's and 1960's. For many years he served as Scout Master of the Boy Scout Troup 650.
Mr. Stephenson was a long-time member of Chesterfield Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon, member of the Session, and Superintendent of the Sunday school.
In addition to his parents, Gene was also preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Taylor McKethan Stephenson, and his sister, Edna Elizabeth Stephenson Spears of Columbia, SC

2 Sons: Eugene Traywick Stephenson, Jr. of Folly Beach, SC and John McKethan Stephenson, DMD and wife Ellen Beard Stephenson of Camden, SC
2 Grandsons: John McKethan Stephenson, Jr. and wife Lara, and daughter, Isabella Grace, and Henry Alexander Stephenson all of Camden, SC
