Mr. Eugene “Mr. Gene” Woodward, age 95, entered into rest on Sunday, June 24, 2018. A celebration of life service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Fairview Baptist Church by Pastor Kyle Oliver and Pastor Harold Cooke. The family will greet friends immediately following the service during a time of visitation and reception in the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Woodward was born May 6, 1923 in Chesterfield County, SC a son of the late Hebron and Lizzie Steen Woodward. A U.S. Army Veteran serving in the European Theatre of World War II, Mr. Gene was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church for over 70 years, serving as former Deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and held the distinction of being the oldest living member. A life-long farmer, Mr. Gene will be remembered as a southern Christian gentleman who had a great sense of humor and a humble spirit. A man who never complained, Mr. Gene was always willing to help anyone in his community and was known as a faithful friend.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, Mr. Gene was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lona Mae Woodward, and 2 daughters, Geraldine Woodward Gulledge and Tricia Woodward Oliver.
Survivors include his daughters, Julie (Ernie) Cooper of Winnsboro, SC, and Linda Davis of Darlington, SC; also numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends including faithful friend and neighbor, Dave Hutchinson of Ruby, SC.
