Ms. Evelyn Douglas (Peg) Griggs, age 93, entered into rest on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family. A celebration of life service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, August 12, 2018 at White Oak Presbyterian Church by Rev. Kyle Henderson and Phillip Caulder, Jr., with the eulogy being delivered by Susan Snow. The family will greet friends during a time of visitation and reception following the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
Ms. Griggs was born April 21, 1925 in Ruby, SC a daughter of the late Orland Harris and Beulah Waddell Douglas. A lifelong member of White Oak Presbyterian Church, Peg served as Deacon and Ruling Elder. She was a dedicated member of White Oak Presbyterian Women, serving as: Moderator, Vice Moderator, Member of the Search Committee, Bible Study Leader, and was the recipient of the highest honor: Life Membership in Presbyterian Women PC (USA).
Ms. Griggs also served as Director of Vacation Bible School, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Children’s Sunday School Teacher, Women’s Class Sunday School Teacher, and Chairman of the Sanctuary Renovation Interior Decorating Committee.
Peg Griggs was a dedicated and loyal servant in Christ’s Church, serving him faithfully at White Oak Presbyterian Church and in her community throughout her life. Her Christian example, leadership and mentorship inspired numerous others to become good and faithful servants.
Ms. Griggs also had a long career and retired from the Selective Service System (U.S. Government) and later worked for the Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Department.
She was married to the late A.C. Griggs; and was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary D. Purvis, Lurline D. Jacobs, Azalee D. Clanton, and Garrett D. Rivers; and brother, Lawton P. Douglas.
Survivors include her son, Mitchell C. Griggs and wife, English P. Griggs of Davidson, NC; grandsons, Camden M. Griggs of Dallas, TX, and Collin M. Griggs of Clemson, SC; and her sister, Faye D. Chewning of Charlotte, NC.
The family of Mrs. Griggs would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to each visitor and friend that took time to encourage “Miss Peg” during her illness. A very special thanks to Mrs. Nora Smith, Mrs. Susan Snow, the nurses and staff of McLeod Hospice, and her White Oak Church family for their prayers, love and care.
