Mr. Fredrick Ora “Fred” Hatter, affectionately known as “Papa”, age 81, passed away on December 9, 2024. At this time, there are no formal services planned.

Born on February 14, 1943, in Champaign, IL, he was a son of the late Fredrick and Helen Evert Hatter. A proud U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Hatter served with the 73rd Airborne Division, “Screaming Eagles,” dedicating 18 years to military service. He later retired as a blueprint specialist with Dean’s Superior Blueprint in Champaign, IL.

Fred enjoyed quiet days filled with watching television, snacking, and taking naps. He found pleasure in playing cards and games, including flight simulator. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and relaxing on the porch. Above all, Fred treasured the time spent with his beloved wife, Sylvia, and his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hatter was preceded in death by his first wife, Lynda Hatter; his brother, Duane Arthur Hatter; brothers-in-law, George James and Robert Garcia; and his twin sons.

He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Hatter; his children, Dana Jenkins of Mansfield, IL, Michelle (Gary Dawkins) Walters of Patrick, SC, Daniel Walters of the home, Leslie Walters of Chesterfield, SC, and April Walters (Thomas Ray) Joplin of Society Hill, SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Joshua Williams, Matthew Williams, Dalton Walters, Amber Moss, Brianna Freeman, Aaron Freeman, Jessie Joplin, and Madison Joplin (affectionately known as “Papa’s princess”), as well as great-grandchildren Alaina Freeman, Paislee Freeman, and Lily Moss. His siblings, Fern Garcia of Mesa, AZ, Daniel (Patricia) Hatter of Tolono, IL, Karen (Rev. Dennis) Skinner of Normal, IL; sister-in-law, Joan Weatherford; and special friend, Carolyn Player (Richard Joplin) also survive him.
