Mr. George Eugene Herndon, 75, passed away, Sunday, January 30, 2022, after an illness at MUSC Florence Medical Center.

Born in Bennettsville, SC on June 12, 1946, to the late George Martin Herndon, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth “GAGA” Pope Schofield. He was a member of the United States Navy. He retired after 33 years of dedicated service with BellSouth, as an Electronic Technician. After retirement he assisted his wife with her family-owned business Mary’s Restaurant in Cheraw, SC. He enjoyed fishing, playing guitars, and spending time with his family.

He was survived by his wife, Rose Marie “Cookie” Herndon of Cheraw; sons, Gene Herndon (Merri-Shannon) of Bennettsville and Eric Herndon (Leslie) of Bennettsville; Stepsons, Matthew Teal of Kentucky and Daniel Teal (Kacy) of Chesterfield; brother, Charles “Wild Bill” Herndon (Donna) of Bennettsville; sister, Linda Lee (Ray) of Bennettsville; grandchildren, Paxton Herndon, Addison Herndon, Brayden Herndon, Braxton Teal, Maggie Teal, and Neason Teal.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above; sister, Pat Claiborne; stepfather, John Schofield.

A visitation will be held 6-8 PM, Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Burroughs Funeral Home.
