Mr. Glen C. Oliver, age 80, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Saturday, December 29, 2018 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Brent Taylor with burial to follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Park of Pageland. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Oliver was born January 21, 1938 in Chesterfield, SC a son of the late Lawrence E. and Elizabeth Lowery Oliver. He was a former employee of the Jefferson Bleachery for over 16 years before becoming the owner and operator of both Ruby Manufacturing and Oliver & Company Auctioneers where he was affectionately known as “Colonel.” Mr. Oliver was a member of the S.C. Army National Guard, Woodmen of the World Chapter 516, and prior to his illness, the Sons of Confederate Veterans of Chesterfield County. He was also a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church.

Mr. Oliver enjoyed “picking and grinning” while singing and playing his guitar and was a proud member of Glen Oliver and the Country Strings Band. His hobbies also included hunting in his early years, studying history, and traveling to flea-markets to sell. He was also instrumental in organizing and founding the Mt. Croghan Mall. A man with a great personality, Glen had the gift of story telling and making it animated and oftentimes believable. Of all things Glen enjoyed, none equaled time spent with his grandchildren and great – grandchildren. He also had a special place in his heart for his K-9 companion, “Izzy” whom he affectionately named, “P-Dab.”

In addition to his parents, Glen was also preceded in death by his nephew, Steven Boatwright.

Survivors include his faithful and devoted wife of 60 years, Gladys Miles Oliver of the home; daughter, Deborah Ann “Debbie” Oliver of Chesterfield, SC; 2 grandchildren, Moni (Brandon) Rayfield, and Ashley (Michael Johnson) Curtis both of Chesterfield, SC; great-grandchildren, Dustin Rayfield, Kaylee Gardner, and Emma Rayfield; sister, Dianne Oliver (Floyd) Boatwright of Hartsville, SC, and nephew, Phillip (Lori) Boatwright of Hilton Head, SC.
