Bishopville, SC – Mrs. Gloria Jean Oakley Brewer, age 75, peacefully entered into rest on December 9, 2024, at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, with her husband, Donny Brewer, by her side. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home. The service will be conducted by Reverend Randy Wilson, with a eulogy presented by Ms. Keisha Hyatt. The family will greet friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on the same day, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Gloria was born on August 12, 1949, in Chesterfield, SC, to the late Luther and Viola Chewning Oakley. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School, class of 1967, and retired after a 42-year career at RBC Bearing in Hartsville, SC, following her earlier roles at Teal's Lumber and Ina Bearing. Gloria enjoyed attending Calvary Baptist Church in Bishopville.
Known for her love of shopping, Gloria had a keen eye for finding great deals and sales. Above all, she cherished her family, taking immense pride in her role as a grandmother. Supporting her grandson Dylan in his baseball career brought her great joy, and she particularly loved embracing the Christmas season, often engaging in acts of kindness to assist those in need anonymously.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her sister, Connie Moore; her brother, Billy Oakley; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otis and Betty Brewer; and her beloved aunt Maggie C. Davis, who played a significant role in her upbringing.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 54 years, Donny Brewer, of the home; her son, Al Brewer, of Hartsville, SC; her bonus daughter, Keisha Hyatt, of Latta, SC; and her grandson, Dylan Brewer, of Latta, SC. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Pat (Bill) Snellings and family of Atlanta, GA, as well as numerous extended family members who held a special place in her heart, including Mary Ellen (Rock) Stone, Teresa (Tom) Owen, Joni Odom, Keith (Andrena) Oakley, Scottie Moore, Sue Oakley, Deronda (David) White, Steve (Janice) Chewning, Linda Mauldin, Bobby (Cindy) Dempsey, Debbie (Gary) Wilfong, Sandi (Ned) Mills, Pam Dempsey Haynes, Brenda (the late Butch) Ott, Frankie Brewer, J.J. Brewer, and their families, along with her colleagues from RBC Bearing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
