Mr. Harry Eugene Atkinson, age 92, entered into rest on Thursday, August 29, 2024. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12:00 PM Monday, September 9, 2024 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father JohnBosco Duraisamy presiding. The Rite of Committal, accompanied by military honors, will follow in the Old St. David’s Cemetery.

 

Mr. Atkinson was born October 16, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, a son of the late Harry Fredrick and Elizabeth Gillespie Atkinson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and served aboard the USS Bronson. He was a retired employee of Pan Am Airlines and a devout member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church of Cheraw and a former member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Wildwood, NJ. He was also a member of the Tin Can Sailors. Known for his quick wit and unmatched sense of humor, Harry enjoyed traveling and was known for his gift of artistry.

 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkinson was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosemary Atkinson.

 

Survivors include his children, Cecilia (Bruce) Holden of Chesterfield, SC, Patricia (Thomas) Gunther of MD, David (Tracey) Atkinson of Las Vegas, NV, Daniel (Divina) Atkinson of Rock Hill, SC, Rosemary (Dennis) Starr of PA, and Harry Atkinson of Sicily, Italy; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and brother, Donald Atkinson of PA.


 The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and administration of Agape Hospice, Gentiva Hospice, and Cheraw Healthcare for their excellent care and support provided to Mr. Atkinson and their family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a hospice organization of one's choice.
