Harry Douglas Hendrix

July 30, 1949 — January 12, 2022

Harry Douglas Hendrix

Harry Hendrix passed away peacefully with his wife, Jane Weber Hendrix by his side on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 following complications from metastatic bladder cancer. He was born on July 30, 1949 in Atlanta, Georgia and was the oldest of three children born to his parents, Harry B. Hendrix and Flora D. Hendrix. Harry was a proud graduate of Briarcliff High School’s Class of 1967 and attended West Georgia College in Carrollton before beginning his 28-year career with Delta Air Lines. With Delta he held positions in Cabin Services and Personnel as well as being a Station Manager in both Detroit, Michigan and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

Following his retirement from Delta he served as a Regional Director with Delta Global Services and G2 Services while living in Las Vegas, Nevada and Sterling, Virginia, before returning home to Atlanta, Georgia. He loved working in the airline industry. Harry was a proud father who always made time for his son Wes Hendrix. They had a special bond that grew even closer as Wes became an adult. Harry adored his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He had a wonderful sense of humor that they will always remember, like his Dollar Store finds, candy coated bugs, visits to his favorite spots in Atlanta like The Varsity and Zoo Atlanta, as well as introducing them to Hot Tamales and Beef Jerky. Harry loved country music. The funnier the song, the better. His musical knowledge was unsurpassed. This might come from him being the lead singer in his high school band, Harry and The Chasers.

Harry is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jane Weber Hendrix, his son Wes Hendrix (Samarah), his sisters, Debra Hendrix Sanders (Wayne) and Beth Hendrix Blankenship (Earl). His stepchildren Charlie Weber, Mark Weber (Sherri), Greg Weber (Kathy) and grandchildren Derek and Carly Weber as well as Ike and Lilli Hays.

Harry’s funeral service will take place in the chapel of A.S. Turner & Sons on Monday, January 17th at 2pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at A.S. Turner and Sons. He will be laid to rest next to his mother in Chesterfield, South Carolina at Shiloh United Methodist Church’s cemetery on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 11am. A family procession will begin at 10:30 AM Wednesday from Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home.

Harry’s family would like to express a special thanks to Sacred Journey Hospice in Newnan, Georgia for the kind and loving care he received. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Journey Hospice Foundation (138 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia 30253).
