Happy was born on July 18, 1934, in Hartsville, SC. He graduated from Hartsville High School and attended Clemson College. He was drafted into the Army in October 1956 and went to Germany in early 1957. Dot was able to follow in May, and their first son, Howard Harrison, Jr. "Harry," was born in Heidelberg in December 1957. They returned home in November 1958.

Happy went to work at Dixie Cup and later went to Sonoco. Their second son, Charles Leon "Lee", was born in Hartsville in November 1960. Happy stayed at Sonoco until his retirement. Happy was also an Eagle Scout and served as Assistant Scout Master of Troop 510 in Hartsville alongside his good friend, Howard Gandy. After retirement, he worked at Happy’s Hobby Shop until he could no longer work several years ago and gave it to his son, Harry.

Throughout his life, Happy loved traveling, especially going on cruises. He also liked playing cards of any kind, particularly poker and Shanghai. Happy loved fishing, going on kayaking trips, and spending time with loved ones and friends.

Happy is survived by his beloved wife, Dot; son, Harry, and his wife, Sherry; six grandchildren: Derrick, Nicole, Patrick, Cole, Bailey and Britt; eight great-grandchildren: Zayden, Makenzie, Zack, Michaela, River, Eli, Willow and Noa; and several special nieces and nephews, including Fran and Winnie; special nieces and nephews, including Fran, Winnie, Dickie and Steve.

A big thank you to the Comfort Keepers caregivers who have helped take care of Happy, especially Loraine, Mariah, Mrs. Morris, and Jasmine. Crescent Hospice has been wonderful, extremely friendly and always helpful. A special thank you to Kaitlyn, Jessica, Janay, Janice and A.K.

A special thank you to my daughter-in-law, Sherry, and her daughter, Britt. I could never have made it through the past few months without them.
