Mr. Jack E. Outen, age 88, entered into rest on Thursday, May 25, 2017. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, May 28, 2017 at Providence Baptist Church by Dr. Roger Wall with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Providence Baptist Church, 232 Providence Church Road, Pageland, SC.

Mr. Outen was born July 19, 1928 in Pageland, SC a son of the late Walter B. and Wrine Anderson Outen. He was a former police officer with the Town of Pageland and retired from Chesterfield County Maintenance Shop as a mechanic. A lifelong member of Providence Baptist Church, Jack was an outgoing southern gentleman who never met a stranger. In his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, especially his Volkswagens.

In addition to his parents, Jack was also preceded in death by sisters, Nelle Outen Pigg, Ethel Outen Jordan, and Violet Outen Sullivan; brothers, Brutus Outen and Bill Outen.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Sara Rayfield “Vickie” Outen of Pageland, SC; 2 daughters, Jackie (Chuck) Hartman of Jefferson, SC and Nancy (Kevin) Plyler of Monroe, NC; 3 grandchildren, Robert “Battle” Hartman, and Whitney Hartman both of Columbia, SC, and Ashton Plyler of Monroe, NC; siblings, Curtis Outen of Charlotte, NC, Betty O. Taylor of Pageland, SC, and Joel (Ruby) Outen of Charlotte, NC; sisters-in-law, Jean Outen of Matthews, NC, and Maynell Outen of Mint Hill, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and brothers of the heart, Ronald Jordan of Summerville, SC, and Wayne Whitaker of Denver, NC.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Springhill Assisted Living of Pageland, SC, staff of PruittHealth – Union Pointe, and the staff of Hospice of Union County for the love and care shown to Mr. Outen.
