DECEASED: Mr. James Melvin Campbell, age 89, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, at Franke at Seaside in Mt. Pleasant, SC, where he had resided since April 2006.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 AM, Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at St. Paul United Methodist Church
INTERMENT: will follow in the Chesterfield Cemetery
VISITATION: will be 10:00 - 11:00 AM, Wednesday in the church parlor
HISTORY: Mr. Campbell was born July 30, 1918 in Anson County, NC a son of the late James Marshall "Jim" and Eula Streater Campbell. He was a graduate of Chesterfield High School class of 1936. Mr. Campbell was a former auto salesman and a retired insurance agent with Lincoln National Life Insurance Company with 20 years of service. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, having served in the 208th Field Artillery Battalion, and was a recipient of the Jubilee of Liberty Medal. Melvin was a member of the Chesterfield American Legion Post 74 and a 60 year member of the South Carolina American Legion. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church where the play ground is named in his honor for all his hard work in keeping the play ground and equipment operational. His hobby was clock repair and collection. Melvin was married to the late Sarah Norwood Campbell for 57 years and was also preceded in death by his two brothers; Harlan and David Campbell, and by his three sisters; Polly Ann Campbell, Betty Lou Truluck, and Mary Belle Owen.

1 Son: James Melvin Campbell, Jr. and wife Mona Short Campbell and their daughter Mary Florence Campbell Watson and her husband David Watson all of Chesterfield, SC
2 Daughters: Sallie Campbell and Alice Campbell Newton and husband John Claude Newton and their children, Sarah Margaret Newton and John Claude Newton, Jr. all of Mt. Pleasant, SC
