James Clifton Tucker

Mt. Croghan, SC

Mr. James Clifton Tucker, age 80, entered into eternal rest on December 12, 2018. A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, December 16, 2018 in the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Tucker was born January 30, 1938 in Chesterfield County, SC a son of the late James Woodrow and Jessie Clara Rivers Tucker. Clifton was a 1955 graduate of Mt. Croghan High School and served in the United States Air Force. Clifton worked as a construction manager and farmer, and he was a member of Mt. Croghan Baptist Church.  Clifton spent his time selling produce at the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market where he was known and admired by everyone. When not at the farmers market, Clifton could be found riding his tractor around. In 1990, he suffered a stroke that left him disabled both physically and with his speech. In spite of these disabilities he continued to sell produce and farm, inspiring others daily who also suffered from disabilities. Clifton’s strong willed attitude never let his disability stop him from doing what he loved.

In addition to his parents, Clifton was preceded in death by his son, Mark Tucker; and his brother, Richard Tucker.

Clifton is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Grace W. Tucker of the home; a son, David Patrick (Monique) Tucker of Mississippi; 2 daughters, Janet T. (Greg) McDaniel, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Nancy Graclyn Wong of Charlotte, NC; 5 grandchildren, Abbie and Katie McDaniel, and Aderick, Brianna, and Zion Jordan; sister, Janice (Bill) Thaxton of Monroe, NC; 2 brothers, Tommy and Gerald Tucker both of Charlotte, NC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Croghan Baptist Church 281 Hough St, Mt Croghan, SC 29727 or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
