Mr. James “Kermit” Gathings, Sr., age 77, entered into rest on Sunday, April 22, 2018. A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Deep Creek Baptist Church by Pastor Mark Perko, Rev. Wayne Gathings, and Rev. Brandon Rouse.
Mr. Gathings was born March 9, 1941 in Anson County, NC a son of the late W.T. and Beulah Swink Gathings. A retired employee of Alltel with 30 years of service, Kermit was also a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church, where he served as former Deacon. Mr. Gathings was a member of the Kilwinning Masonic Lodge # 64 for over 50 years. Kermit enjoyed fishing, gardening, his pets, and will be remembered for his great personality. Of all things he enjoyed his favorite pastime was time spent with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Kermit was also preceded in death by his brothers, Monroe, Joe, Bob, Haywood, and Junior Gathings; sisters, Kay Short, and Frances Gathings.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Barbara H. Gathings of the home; son, James Kermit Gathings, Jr. and wife, Tammy Phillips Gathings; daughter, Melissa Gathings Davis and husband, Corey Davis both of Wadesboro, NC; 3 grandchildren, Lucas Gathings and wife, Olivia Gathings, Mallory Gathings, and Sydney Davis all of Wadesboro, NC; brothers, Wayne (Frances) Gathings of Lilesville, NC, and Thomas (Lynda) Gathings of Burlington, NC; and sister, Sarah Morton of Richfield, NC.
