Mr. James Knox Moore, age 82, entered into rest on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Rev. Ronald Thurman. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Moore was born August 7, 1935 in Ruby, SC a son of the late Walter H. and Ollie Lee Oliver Moore. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a Mason with Chesterfield Masonic Lodge # 220. Reared in Hopewell Baptist Church, Knox later moved his membership to Bay Springs Baptist Church where he served as former Deacon. Mr. Moore was a retired employee of Sonoco and following his retirement he was the owner and operator of Moore’s Truck Repair and the proud owner of James K. Moore Farms. Knox enjoyed fox, deer, and rabbit hunting and was associated with the SC Horse and Donkey Association. He was a member and former president of both the SC Fox Hunter’s Association and the Pee Dee Beagle’ Club. A long-time member of the Chesterfield County Horseman’s Association, Knox hosted numerous rodeos throughout the years at his farm.
In addition to his parents, Knox was the last surviving member of his immediate family of eleven and was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Erline Blackwell Moore; brothers, Harley, Parnell, Harget, Bart, Tom, Bob, and John; 3 sisters, Hazel Vick, Margaret Gulledge, and Mary Lee Gulledge.
Survivors include his 3 sons, Chester (Sue) Moore, Toby Moore, and Mike Moore all of Chesterfield, SC; 2 grandchildren, Jessie (Jason) Oliver of Ruby, SC, and Carrie (Adam) Foote of Chesterfield, SC; 4 great grandchildren, Baylor, Dustin, Junuh, and Makenlee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
