Janie Elizabeth Stratton Sweatt

Janie Elizabeth Stratton Sweatt passed away on November 18th, 2019. She was born on August 18th, 1932. Janie was a member of Cross Roads Baptist Church in Mt. Croghan, S.C. She was married to the late Bill Sweatt for 54 years. They loved each other, their children, grandchildren and their foster children. Janie was an accomplished quilter. She made quilts cherished between generations for her beloved friends and family. She worked for Springs Industries throughout her adulthood and had an in-home daycare in her retirement.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents, Dudley Walter Stratton and Bertha Elizabeth Gulledge Stratton; brothers, Eugene Stratton, J.B. Gulledge, Leonard Stratton; and sister, Geneva Gulledge.

Janie is survived by her three children Elaine Adkins (Jack), Tommy Sweatt, and Libby Sweatt-Lambert (Steve); grandchildren, Walt Adkins, Scot Adkins, Mandy Lackey (Scott), Thomas Whichard, Marion Anderson, Danny Anderson, Chauncey Metzelaars (Jonathon), Travis Anderson, and Alexandria Lambert; greatgrandchildren, Sean Metzelaars, Layla Metzelaars, and Jase Lackey; and loving dog, Louis. Janie is survived by an extended family that loved her deeply. She and Bill were former foster parents to 24 children.

Janie’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 20th at 12:00 PM at her family’s church, Cross Roads Baptist Church in Ruby, S.C. by Dr. Rick Henderson, Rev. Keith Hinson, and Rev. Tim Espar with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Visitation will precede the funeral at 10:30 AM in the Family Life Building of Cross Roads Baptist Church.
