Mr. Jerry Wayne Dowdy, 67, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Monday, July 26, 2021. Born, January 8, 1954 in Bennettsville, SC he was a son of the late Marvin Larue Dowdy and the late Jenny Lafaye Collins. Jerry served his country proudly in the South Carolina National Guard, retiring after many years of service. During his time in the Guard, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and was known by his fellow Guardsmen as “Outlaw 50”. Jerry also was a Deputy with the Marlboro County Sherriff’s Department. Affectionately known as “Pa” by his grandkids, Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends, as well as playing golf, hunting, fishing, and boat rides on the Pee Dee River. His motto was “Good Friends and Good Times”.
Along with his parents, listed above, Mr. Dowdy was preceded in death by a brother, Robin Dowdy.
Jerry leaves behind to cherish his memory, his son, Travis Dowdy (Mica) of Bennettsville, SC; a daughter, Shannon Blackwell (Paul Blackwell, III) of Cheraw, SC; brothers, Bruce Dowdy of Bennettsville, SC and David Dowdy (Lynne) of Bennettsville, SC; grandchildren, Holden Dowdy, Parker Dowdy, Vivianne Blackwell, and Beckett Blackwell; and many friends that he considered and loved like family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at Kiser Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. just prior to the service at the funeral home.
