Mrs. JoAnne Winburn Morgan, age 87, entered into rest on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, December 2, 2023 at First United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Keith Stewart with burial to follow in the Old St. David’s Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM Saturday, prior to the service in the church parlor.
Mrs. Morgan was born on January 17, 1936 in Patrick, SC to William Edward and Flossie Turnage Winburn. She attended Thornwell High School in Clinton, SC and later graduated from Spartanburg General Hospital X-ray & Radiology School. Mrs. Morgan began her career at Chesterfield General Hospital and dedicated 45 years of service before retiring from Scotland Memorial Hospital.
Devoted to her faith, Mrs. Morgan was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Cheraw, SC. She actively participated in the United Methodist Women in Faith and the Kinsey Mulloy Bible Class. Over the years, she received numerous recognitions for her volunteer service to the church. Mrs. Morgan had a passion for bird watching and gardening, earning a reputation for her remarkable gardening skills and designating a name to every plant she grew. However, above all else, she cherished her family deeply and embraced time spent with friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her husband PFC William "Tootie" Morgan Jr., son, William Battle Morgan III, siblings, William Francis "Billy" Winburn, John Edward Winburn (her twin brother), Margaret Winburn Westmoreland, and Susan Winburn McKenna; as well as sisters-in-law Emma Jean Winburn, Hilda Wilds, Sara Wicker; and nephew Bill Winburn.
Mrs. Morgan is survived by her granddaughter, Amber (Lori) Morgan of Charlotte, NC, as well as her sister-in-law Patricia Morgan Turner and brother-in-law George (Martha) Morgan of Smithfield, NC. She also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews including Paulette (Buddy) Freeman, Lisa Westmoreland, Karen (Terry) Teal, Meg (Rob) Lewis, Gerald (Lib) Turner, Shannon (Jeff) Johnson. Furthermore, she will be dearly missed by her loving church family at First United Methodist Church.
