John Olin Hurst

Mr. John Olin Hurst, age 90, of Patrick, South Carolina, peacefully entered into rest on February 1, 2025, at his home. He was born on August 13, 1934, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, to the late Weldon Miles Hurst and Ada Lee Jones Hurst.

Mr. Hurst proudly served in the South Carolina National Guard and was a faithful member of St. John Freewill Baptist Church for over sixty years. Known for his honesty and integrity in the used car business, he earned the affectionate nickname "The Honda Man." Mr. Hurst also enjoyed following NASCAR and fishing in his later years. Above all, he cherished his role as "Pa Pa" to his grandchildren, attending all their sporting events and never missed an opportunity to brag on them. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hurst was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Rosa Faye McLain Hurst, and his brothers: Leverne, Boyce, James, and Harold Hurst.

He is survived by his children, Rodney (Tina) Hurst of Cheraw, SC, Kent (Jennifer) Hurst, and Melba (Billy) Jones, both of Patrick, SC. Mr. Hurst will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Nicolas Gulledge, Justin (Hope) Hurst, Logan (Alyson) Hurst, Adam Hurst, and Gabe Hurst; as well as his great-grandchildren: Hunter, Peyton, Scarlett, Grayson, Jace, and Madison. He also leaves behind a special companion, Ethelene Tyner of Patrick, SC, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Hurst will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by his long-time friends, Tommy Bailey, Kirby Hughes, and Brent Taylor, with burial to follow at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Additionally, friends are invited to visit the family on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, between 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Melba and Billy Jones.
