FLORENCE – Judy Lewis Moody, 59, died Thursday, January 14, 2021, after a courageous battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s Disease for the last few years.

Judy was born in Spartanburg, SC, a daughter of Shirley Gleason Lewis and the late Sherrill Sloan Lewis.  She graduated from Coker College and Francis Marion University, where she earned her master’s degree.  She taught elementary school for 30 years, first at Bishopville Primary School and then Wallace Gregg Elementary and Carver Elementary Schools in Florence.

Mrs. Moody was a devoted member of Pisgah United Methodist Church.  She served faithfully in the Pisgah music ministry, primarily as church organist, but also in many other ways, for decades.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Robert L. Moody, Jr., of Florence; her mother, Shirley G. Lewis, of Florence; two sons, Nicholas Lewis Moody (Anna Catherine Wagers) and John William Moody, both of Columbia; two sisters, Allison Smith (Everette) and Amy Lewis (Byron Navy), both of Florence; an aunt, Winnie Waller, of Atlanta, GA, and her family; her father-in-law, Robert L. Moody, Sr., of Ruby, SC; and other extended family members.

In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Libby Moody.

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, January 18, 2021, at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Waters-Powell Funeral Home.  All recommended COVID-19 precautions will be observed.

The family wishes to thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice, namely Glynis and Kim, for their compassionate care during the last few months.
