Mrs. Julia Johnson Smith, age 79, entered into rest on Monday, February 17, 2020. Memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Mrs. Smith was born August 22, 1940 in Kinston, NC the eldest daughter of Patrick Dowd and Clyde Gregory Johnson. She attended NC public schools and graduated from Grainger HS in 1958. Julia attended East Carolina University in Greenville, NC majoring in business education.

In May 1970, she married Kelly Smith. Their two sons were born in January 1972 and April 1975.  She dedicated the next ten years to taking care of her family.  During this time, she also gave of herself as a volunteer member of the Parent Advisory Committee for the Title 1 Reading Programs and worked on numerous PTO and other school volunteer jobs at Dutch Fork Elementary School in Irmo, SC.  She also worked as a poll manager in her local precinct.

In 1985, Julia joined her husband in his company, Associated Services.  Together they provided legislative, administrative and member communication services to associations, businesses and organizations operating in SC.

Julia was a member of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church in Chapin, SC.  Her hobbies included sailing and reading.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 50 years, Kelly Smith of the home; sons, Kelly P. (Kristy T.) Smith of Piedmont, SC, and Christopher S. Smith of Chapin, SC; grandchildren, Kelsey Patrick Smith, Kameron P. Smith, Carter Smith, and Addison Smith; sister, Lynn (Jody) Woolard of Goldsboro, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
