Mr. Kenneth Wade “Ken” Newell, age 79, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. A funeral service will be 1:30 PM Sunday, October 27, 2024 in the Sunset Memory Gardens Chapel, 8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC 28227, with entombment to follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens mausoleum. The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 1:30 PM prior to the service in the chapel.
Mr. Newell was born November 2, 1944 in Union County, NC a son of the late Lee Edmond and Lula Mae McClain Newell. Kenneth served his country honorably in Vietnam as an Army Military Intelligence Soldier. Kenneth lived with his wife Jan in California while serving in the Pacific. After completing his military service, Kenneth and Jan returned home to Indian Trail, NC. Mr. Newell went on to serve his community as the pastor of the Church of Christ in Mineral Springs, NC. He held multiple jobs in his lifetime however Kenneth found his passion in landscaping, and later in life in taxidermy. Kenneth’s favorite hobbies included being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and helping those in need. However, Kenneth’s greatest joy and sense of pride came from his children.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Newell was preceded in death by his brothers, Dallas Newell, Bruce Newell, and Max Newell.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jan Taylor Newell of the home; children, Eric (Nichole) Newell of Rock Hill, SC, Mike (Tammi) Newell of Rock Hill, SC, Danielle (Tom Hasker) Taylor of Carlisle, PA, Jason (Angela) Newell of Pageland, SC; grandchildren, Taylor, Kaylee, Pearse, Emma, Kassie, Will, Miranda, Ariel, Serenity, Tommy; sister, Linda (Richard) Polk of Weddington, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Gentiva Hospice Foundation, app.etapestry.com; or to Union County Council on Aging, coaunion.org/donate.
Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home (www.mrcfuneralhome.com) of Chesterfield, SC is serving the Newell family.
