Mr. Lacey McKenzie, 89, of McBee, SC passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday morning, October 17, 2023, surrounded by his children. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late William Gillespie McKenzie and Annie Bell Blackwell McKenzie.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, October 21, 2023, in the Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home and Crematory. The Rev. Marvin Gainey will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
Mr McKenzie was a former sheet metal supervisor in the construction industry and owner of McKenzie Well Drilling. An avid genealogist, he spent the latter years of his life tracing his ancestry back to Scotland. He had many cats and dogs and frequently took in strays in the neighborhood.
He is survived by his son, Lacy Wayne McKenzie of McBee, SC; daughters, Cindy Moore (Wayne) of Chesterfield, SC, Crystal Dixon (Dennis) of Chesterfield, SC, Lisa McKenzie of Kershaw, SC; brothers, Edward McKenzie, Vance McKenzie, Ray McKenzie; sister, Mettie Jane Gainey; grandchildren, Burton Jaillette, Eric Jaillette, Charles Huggins, Jr., Jennifer Tiller, Dustin McKenzie, Mallory Smith, Alex McKenzie; special friend, Mettie Bradley; 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, his dog, Jack; his cat, Little Bit.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth McKenzie; brothers, J.W. McKenzie, Otis McKenzie; sisters, Evelyn Blackwell, Mary Beasley, Lucy Morrison.
