Linda Threadgill passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, April 8 at her home in Easley SC. Linda was born June 19th, 1943 in Pontiac, Michigan and was adopted at the age of 3 to her parents Herbert and Mildred (Chambers) Libby. Over twenty years ago she finally met her real sisters and was able to connect with her biological family.
Linda was an accomplished pianist and played for schools, churches, friends, and family for over 60 years. She also taught herself how to play the organ and often played both for many congregations. Her music career began at the age of 4, and with the help of her brother, Jerome Libby, she mastered the piano at a very young age. See was so good that she was asked to accompany the Pontiac Northern High School choir beginning in her sophomore year. While in high school, she also played for her home Nazarene church as well as famous gospel groups of that time.
She played for various churches of various denominations throughout the country. Her ability to move congregations emotionally through music left a lasting impression on many in the congregation and often many would come early and stay late to listen to her preludes and postludes. Her legacy will be her music and the profound affect it had on all of those who were blessed to hear her play. That legacy will live on through her friends, her students, and her family.
Her love of music was only eclipsed by her love for her family. She was a devoted and loving companion to Daryl Threadgill for almost 38 years. She and Daryl were married on May 25th, 1980 and lived in several states including, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Michigan, Illinois, and California. They retired to Easley, SC in February of 2011.
Linda is survived by her sons Matthew Jay Threadgill of Kansas City and Kevin Troy Heard of Charlevoix, MI and a daughter Lori Lyn Armstrong (husband Mark) of Sault Ste. Marie, MI.; sisters Rita Francisco and Linda Dawson; granddaughters Whitney Lyn Heard and Hannah Mae Heard; and grandsons Jay Michael Threadgill and Sean Thomas Threadgill.
She was preceded in death by her mother Mildred Libby and her father Herbert Libby; her brother Jerome B. Libby; and sisters Dawn Ware and Cleo Pethers.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Friday, April 13, 2018 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Dr. Lindsey Powell with burial to follow in the Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
