Mrs. Lucy Mae Knight Simpson, age 93, entered into rest on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Jefferson Presbyterian Church by Rev. Farrar Griggs with burial to follow in the Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, May 6, 2019 at Jefferson Presbyterian Church, 305 Main Street, Jefferson, SC.

Mrs. Simpson was born June 21, 1925 in Muhlenberg County, KY a daughter of the late Luther David and Mattie Belle Goodman Knight. She was a homemaker who had the spiritual gift of hospitality and was a faithful member of Rocky Creek Presbyterian Church for over 73 years. A lady with a true servant’s heart, Lucy served the Lord in numerous capacities throughout the years at her church. Mrs. Simpson loved to cook and was known for her caramel iced pound cakes. She enjoyed gardening and her goal each year was to can enough vegetables to last for two years. Other hobbies included quilting, embroidery work, playing checkers, working jig-saw puzzles and was the undisputed family champion of fishing. Her role as mother, grandmother, and great – grandmother exemplified the patience, love, and joy that each of us strive to achieve today. She never met a baby she didn’t immediately love or couldn’t rock to sleep.

In addition to her parents, Lucy was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cornelius P. “C.P.” Simpson; son, David Lee Simpson; son-in-law, Billy L. Jenkins; granddaughter, Krystan Lee Simpson Helms; and brothers, Lloyd Knight and Floyd Knight.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara S. Jenkins of Jefferson, SC; daughter-in-law, Margaret T. Simpson of Jefferson, SC; grandchildren, Angela (Gene) Garris of Columbia, SC, Jessica (Daniel) Griffin of Pageland, SC, and Johnathan S. Jenkins of Jefferson, SC; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Dawson, Laurel, Pippa, Carla, Maximos, Leonidas, Collin, Carys, and Celsey; grandson-in-law, Donny Helms of Jefferson, SC; sister, Louise K. Jenkins of Belton, KY.

The family would like to express their thanks to Joanne Cowan, Brenda Hough, Peggy Melton, Pam Robinson, and Lisa Todd for the love and care shown to Mrs. Simpson.
