Luther P. Grooms was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, November 25, 2018. Mr. Grooms was born on April 15, 1932 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina to Luther P. and Annie McClain Grooms.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Gladys Wallace Grooms. Also surviving are his four children: Cecil (Kathy) Grooms of Cheraw, SC, Arlene (Rex) Hancock of Patrick, SC, Troy Grooms of Patrick, SC, and Jeff Grooms of Cheraw, SC. Additionally, Mr. Grooms was the greatest grandfather that his seven surviving granddaughters could’ve asked for: Kristi Grooms of Chapin, SC, Heather (Michael) Tadlock of Bennettsville, SC, Danielle (Brian) Johnson of Cheraw, SC, April (Jason) Carter of Ruby, SC, Tressa Hancock of Patrick, SC, Whitney (Alan) Sanders of Hickory, NC, and Alyssa (Jodie) Goodwin of Cheraw, SC. He loved his girls, and through them he is also survived by thirteen beautiful great grandchildren: Landon Goodwin, Logan Carter, Owen Johnson, Alaina Goodwin, Addison Goodwin, Jace Michael Tadlock, Shane Carter, Luke Sanders, Ella Kate Johnson, Jena Claire Tadlock, Sarah Carter, Harper Sanders, and Abel Sanders.
Throughout his life, Mr. Grooms enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, fishing, and watching football on Sundays. He was a member of Bethesda Methodist Church in Chesterfield, SC, and a veteran of the United States Army.
He was preceded home by his parents, his son, Danny Lamar Grooms; his siblings: Horace Grooms, Carl Grooms, Bradley Grooms, Dorothy G. Baskins, and Myrtle G. Moore; his granddaughter, Vannessa Leigh Hancock; and two great grandchildren: Michael Grooms and River Avery Sanders.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Thursday, November 29, 2018 from the chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home in Chesterfield, SC by Dr. Lindsey Powell, Rev. Grady Baskins, and Rev. Tim Wright with burial to follow in the Lower Macedonia Memorial Gardens. The family will greet friends Thursday from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.
