Mrs. Margaret Black Bell, of Greenwood, SC, formerly of Chesterfield, SC, died Friday, June 19, 2009. Born September 8, 1918, in York County, SC, she was the last surviving child of Arthur Lindsay and Lindsay Clark Black. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters, and by her husband, Waldo Emerson Bell.

Mrs. Bell attended the Cotton Belt School, York High School, and Flora McDonald College, Class of 1941. From 1950 to 1991, she lived in Chesterfield where she was employed by the Chesterfield Public Schools and later the Chesterfield County Department of Social Services, from which she retired in 1984. She was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church and the Talk "n" Tally Bridge Club.

In 1991, she moved to the Wesley Commons Retirement Community in Greenwood. She became an associate member of Main Street United Methodist Church and a member of the Tulip Garden Club, and served on the Wesley Commons Residents
Council. As long as her health permitted, she enjoyed frequent visits with friends and family back in Chesterfield and York.

Mrs. Bell is survived by two sons, Emerson Bell of Charlotte, NC and David Lindsay Bell and his wife, Hunter McClintock Bell of Greenwood, and by her granddaughter, Anne-Miller Bell also of Greenwood.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009, at 11:30 A.M., at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Chesterfield, SC, conducted by the Rev. Rebecca J. Huguley and the Rev. Janie Blakely.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of Wesley Commons, especially those in the Assisted Living and Special Care units, and also to the staff of NHC Healthcare, for their unfailing care, compassion, and patience.
