DATELINE: Chesterfield, SC
Margaret Hendricks Dalrymple, age 92 of Chesterfield, moved to her heavenly address on August 20, 2015. Margaret was the daughter of the late Cornelius Alexander Hendricks and Martha Smith Hendricks, and was the youngest of 7 children. She grew up in Chesterfield, South Carolina, and she spent most of her life working and raising her family in Chesterfield County.
Margaret graduated from Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina, and she taught school at Mt. Croghan. She enjoyed 43 years of marriage to the love of her life, the Honorable J.H.C. (Clovis) Dalrymple. Although Clovis had to leave her too early, Margaret continued to love and care for their four daughters and their growing families. She became a regal matriarch of her family, called "Mema" with great love and affection.
An imaginative and creative dreamer, Margaret learned to paint as a hobby and became a featured artist in her guild and an award-winning artist at Deepwood Estates. Her artwork continues to decorate the homes of her children, grandchildren, and friends. Margaret also loved to write. She filled notebooks with her life stories that are a treasury of good memories with her family and friends.
Margaret was a true adventurer who loved maps and all the wonderful places they could take her. She enjoyed magnificent trips all over the United States and abroad with her family and friends. Margaret always kept an overnight bag packed, just in case she got a chance to spend time at her home on Yaupon Beach, or travel to Lake Murray, or the North Carolina mountains.
Margaret loved her church, Cross Roads Baptist Church in Ruby, South Carolina. She was a legend in the ranks of the saints of her home church family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clovis Dalrymple, and by a granddaughter, Melanie Gulledge. She is survived by her four daughters, Delores Dalrymple (Van) Gulledge of Columbia, South Carolina; Gail Dalrymple (Alvin) Miller of Columbia, South Carolina; Belinda Dalrymple (Nelson) Woods of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and
C. Jennalyn Dalrymple of Blythewood, South Carolina. Margaret is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dr. Christopher (Dr. Alyssa) Gulledge, Erik (Anna) Miller, Brian (Tasha) Miller, Angie Woods Betz, Kipp (Katie) Woods, Pete and Louie and ten great-grandchildren, Taylor Till, Tyler Till, Katie Miller, Brycen Miller, Braylie Miller, Brayden Betz, Cade Betz, Easton Betz, Harrison Woods and Avery Woods along with nieces, nephews, many loving friends, and her Cadillac.
Whether you knew her as Margaret, Mama, Mema, or Maggie, you knew what a special lady she was. You probably also know that she's already enjoying catching up with loved ones in Heaven. She's already signed up for art classes with angels, and has a standing Thursday hair appointment on Gold Street. She's a busy lady. If you need to reach her, try knee mail. Ask God to give her a message. They are great friends.
Margaret's family gratefully acknowledges the many wonderful people Margaret met at Still Hopes Retirement Community, Columbia area hospitals and Deepwood Estates for the friendship and for the loving care that they offered her during her beautifully colored twilight years.
Services for Margaret will be held at Cross Roads Baptist Church in Ruby, South Carolina on Sunday, August 23, 2015. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM-3:30 PM in the Cross Roads Family Life Center. Margaret's Celebration of Life will follow at 4:00 PM in the Cross Roads Sanctuary.
