Martha J. Jowers

Jefferson, SC

Martha Johnson Jowers entered Jesus’ loving embrace on August 22, 2024. Born in the Angelus Community to Carl and Annie Bell Johnson on September 1, 1931 as the fifth of six children. Martha was well known for her work ethic and frugal approach to life. Her “love” language was to work for family and others. She faced much difficulty in life, but she always trusted in Jesus Christ for her salvation, hope, and peace. Martha always met each obstacle with determination and hard work.

As a small young girl, she was known for picking the most cotton. She also helped produce cane syrup on the family farm. She always started school later in the fall after harvesting crops. Nevertheless, she finished her education from Macedonia High School in Angelus, SC.

After graduation, Martha married William Sanford Jowers (deceased). She and Sanford had four children: William Graylon Jowers (deceased) Michael Dale Jowers, Sandy (Jowers) Morrow, and Glenda (Jowers) Haskins.

Martha worked with her husband raising turkeys and later worked at Caro-Knit in Jefferson. She also worked at Challenger (later GE) in Pageland, SC. After Sanford’s death, Martha retired from GE and started her second career in long leaf pine straw. With help from family and good friends, she raked, baled, and sold long leaf pine straw for twenty plus years. Martha enjoyed meeting people through her pine straw business.

Martha loved her family. She had nine grandchildren: Felecia (Jowers) Williamson, Kayla (Jowers) Lundy, Erin (Morrow) Ruth, Dillon Morrow, Gray Haskins, Hunter Haskins, Morgan Jowers, Connor Morrow, and Tyler Haskins. She also had nine great-grandchildren.

Martha also loved the Angelus Community and her Macedonia Baptist Church family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Macedonia Baptist Church by Pastor David Sanders. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Wednesday prior to the service at the church.

The Family would also like to express their appreciation to caregivers at The Legacy at Karesh at Beechwood both located in Camden, SC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Macedonia Baptist Church c/o Senior Meals, 3944 Johnson Rd., Jefferson, SC 29718.

Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home (www.mrcfuneralhome.com) of Chesterfield, SC is serving the Jowers family.
