Mary E. McLain, of Mint Hill, North Carolina, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024, surrounded by her loving and faithful daughters. She was 80 years old. Mary loved the Lord and trusted Him in her lengthy cancer journey.
A native of Chesterfield, South Carolina, Mary was a daughter of the late Charles and Annie Evans. She was a longtime member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church where she helped in the nursery and sang in the choir, and was active in her Sunday school class. Mary enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, and canasta, and liked to work in her garden. She was an excellent hostess and loved to bake. Mary was an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, neighbor, and friend to all.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Brooks McLain.
Surviving are her three daughters, Rhonda McLain Lisk and husband, Steve, Amy McLain Miller and husband, Brian, and Sherry McLain; and five grandchildren, Harper Miller and wife, Hannah, Spencer Lisk, Jane Miller, Christian Miller, and Annie Lisk; and one great-granddaughter, Huxley. Mary also leaves behind a brother, Charles Evans; a sister, Nancy Jo Wood; three sisters-in-law, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday, April 11, 2024, at McEwen Funeral Service, Mint Hill Chapel, 7428 Matthews-Mint Hill Road in Mint Hill. A funeral service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 12, 2024, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Chapel Harris Campus, with the Rev. Clint Pressley and the Rev. Dr. John Harrill officiating. A committal service will be held at 3:00 pm in the Evans, Robeson, Spencer Family Cemetery in Chesterfield, South Carolina.
