Mary Elizabeth Brock Turner

Chesterfield, SC

          Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Brock Turner, age 92, entered into rest on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, April 2, 2023 from the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home by Reverend Dr. Phillip Hunter, Reverend Robert Rivers, and Brent Taylor. The service of committal will follow in the Oakland Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by Reverend Gerald Rivers. The family will greet friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

          Mrs. Turner was born July 19, 1930 in Chesterfield County, SC a daughter of the late William Thomas “Willie” and Dora Bryan Gibson Brock. She attended Zoar High School and was a 1947 graduate of Chesterfield High School. A faithful member of Oakland Baptist Church, Mary was a former Sunday school teacher, church clerk, VBS Director, church custodian, WMU Director, Acteens & GA Director, and was the cemetery coordinator for many years.

          Mrs. Turner was a retired employee of Chesterfield Manufacturing and a former employee of Sacony Industries. Following her retirement, Mary enjoyed working with North Star Leather. She enjoyed cooking and was known for her homemade biscuits. She also enjoyed traveling, sewing, and spending time in her front porch swing. Mrs. Turner was the matriarch of her family and was proud to be addressed as “Grandma Mary” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

          In addition to her parents, Mrs. Turner was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Coleman Turner, Sr.; son, Reverend Robert E. Coleman Turner, Jr.; daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Turner Raffaldt; granddaughter, Allison Elizabeth Sowell; son-in-law, William H. “Bill” Parker; daughter-in-law, Brenda Gail Mancill Turner; grandson-in-law, Gary Edward Oliver; brothers, Charles E. Brock, William Gardner Brock, and James Perry Brock; sister-in-law, Mary Fisher Brock; and brother-in-law, Darrell Mangum.

          Survivors include her children, Bonnie Turner Parker of Hartsville, SC, Janice Turner (Randy) Sowell of Chesterfield, SC, and Karen Turner (Scott) Brock of Pageland, SC; grandchildren, Patty (Dean) Sanders, Marcia (Jody) Rhyne both of Chesterfield, SC, Charlotte (Chris) Goforth of Knoxville, TN, Brandi (Michael) Johnson of Hartsville, SC, Meredith (Lee) Wallace of Chesterfield, SC, Matthew (Kim) Turner of Patrick, SC, Chrystal Sowell of Florence, SC, Whitney Brock, and Lauren Brock both of Pageland, SC; great grandchildren, Ashley Oliver, Gabe Oliver, Hunter Gainey, Deklan Woodell, Garyn Woodell, Grayce Rhyne, Gabi Rhyne, Dawson Wallace, Rylan Wallace, Melanie Turner, Matthew Turner, Jr., Toby Turner, Jason Turner, Savannah Johnson, and Jeffrey Buice; sister, Juanita Brock Mangum of Chesterfield, SC; and sisters-in-law, Sarah Rivers Brock of West Columbia, SC, and Janie Dixon Brock of Chesterfield, SC.

          The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Christina Biester, the staff of Rehabilitation Center of Cheraw, and the staff of Gentiva Hospice of Chesterfield for the excellent care and support shown to Mrs. Mary and her family.
