Mary White Teal

Cheraw, SC – Mrs. Mary White Teal, age 97, peacefully entered into rest on the evening of March 7, 2025. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Westside Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Dr. Steve West and Reverend Jerry Brunson. Burial will follow at Chatham Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, prior to the service at the church, and at other times at the residence of her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Paula Teal, located at 107 Knight Street, Cheraw, SC.

Mrs. Teal was born on February 21, 1928, in Chesterfield, SC, to the late Edward J. and Rillie Ann Eddins White. She dedicated over 20 years of service as a telephone switchboard operator at Chesterfield General Hospital before retiring. A devoted member of Westside Baptist Church, she held the record for the longest consecutive donations during the annual American Red Cross blood drive. Mrs. Teal found joy in daily walks, solving word search puzzles, tending to her flowers, and listening to southern gospel music. As the matriarch of her family, she was lovingly referred to as “Granny” and will be deeply missed by all.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Teal was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Eugene Teal; her daughter, Helen Teal Harsey; and her siblings: Wilson White, Lubert W. White, Edward James “E.J.” White, Elsie White Kimrey, Doris White Talbert, and Thomas White.

Mrs. Teal is survived by her children: Barbara Teal (Rev. Jerry) Brunson of Saluda, SC, Carolyn Teal (Brian) Mickleberry of Cheraw, SC, Jayne Teal (Dennis) Martin of Spartanburg, SC, and Wayne (Paula) Teal of Cheraw, SC. She also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, including Chris (Rebeka) Brunson of Saluda, SC, Brent (Geneice) Brunson of Fort Worth, TX, Jena (Brad) Martin of Columbia, SC, Jordan (Anna) Mickleberry of Greensboro, NC, Jessica (Dr. Ian) McLeod of Columbia, SC, Crystal (Scott) Lowery, and Meredith Scherer both of Spartanburg, SC, along with Jacob Teal and Adam Teal from Cheraw, SC, and numerous great-grandchildren, as well as generations of nieces and nephews.
